Our association was founded on April, 5th, 1992, in Wildemann, Harz. The objective is
to make the Harz cow and the Harz goat known and to introduce them again
in the Harz mountains.
Domestic animal enthusiasts, animal breeders, former herdsmen, veterinarians,
etc. came together and elected Wolfgang Beuse as their first Chairman.
Beuse has tried for many years now rebreed these animals which are threatened
by extinction.
Another further very important aspect is the maintenance of mountain
meadows by the cattle. The flowering meadows with the red-brown cows
are also a great tourist attraction which meanwhile is already offered
to the tourists in many Harz places.
It was agreed to preserve these robust and undemanding animals in a
time where "high performance cattle" are bred everywhere,
because these animals are also representatives of the culture of past
times in the Harz mountains.
The association operates on a non-profit basis and works to keep old
herding traditions such as the old and pasture right, the tradition
of herdsmen and the Harz customs.
